Immunization

What is it?

Immunizations are provided at many locations throughout Peace Country Health by Public Health Nurses.  We follow the immunization schedule mandated by Alberta Health and Wellness and all such vaccines are provided free of charge.

People of all ages should keep their immunizations up-to-date. Immunization protects you against a wide range of disease that continue to exist in our community. Immunization also prevents the spread of disease. At the right is the immunization schedule for children and adults.

How do I access it?

Immunizations may be provided at all public health offices during Family Health and Immunization Clinics.  Most clinic visits require an appointment.  See below for the phone number of the office closest to your home.  We also offer this service at many rural sites around the region on a drop-in or appointment basis.

We also participate in the provincial campaign to provide Influenza immunization to all eligible Albertans usually between October and December.

Nurses also provide immunization in schools to students with parental consent as recommended by Alberta Health and Wellness.

What does it cost?

Most immunizations are provincially funded and provided free of charge to Alberta residents. Fees are charged for immunizations that are not part of the routine provincial immunization schedule.

In these instances, as well as in the case of vaccines recommended to travellers to foreign countries, Peace Country Health purchases the vaccines for resale to the public.

Public Health Nurses will not administer vaccines purchased elsewhere.  See the section Travel Health Services for more details.
